Fr. Richard McBrien Dies

Wisdom House was saddened to hear of the recent death of Fr. Richard McBrien, a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford, former theology professor at the University of Notre Dame, author, and widely-syndicated columnist.

Fr. McBrien was one of the leading voices in the Catholic Church for adapting the results of the Second Vatican Council to the life of local churches.

In preparation for entering  nto the New Millennium, he came to Wisdom House on February 24, 1996 to give a lecture on "The Once and Future Church."

Lent Begins

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the celebration of the season of Lent.

Lent is that Christian liturgical season of 40 days that remembers Jesus of Nazareth's life, his death, and, at Easter, his Resurrection.

As a reminder of his last three days, the Catholic Church often prays the Stations of the Cross.

In our Marie Louise Trichet Gallery, we have on exhibit 15 paintings of artist Janet Mc Kenzie with her visual rendition of  Jesus' journey to his death and ultimate Resurrection.

This exhibit is titled: "Embracing Transformation:The Journey and the Cross."

The public is invited to come to Wisdom House to view and pray with these magnificent paintings and enter into the spirit of this season.

Gallery hours are Monday - Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm. If requested, a short introduction to the exhibit can be given. Contact us at 860-567-3163 or email
programs@wisdomhouse.org.

10th Anniversary of Death of Sr. Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN

Sr. Dorothy Stang, a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, served as a missionary in Brazil with the families of landless peasants for 40 years.

Because of her work for justice and preservation of the Amazon Forest, she was shot to death on February 12, 2005, in Anapu, Para, a section of the Amazon.

Let us remember all work for justice in our country and on foreign shores.
