Treasuring the NOW

You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going.  What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope.

Our Norway Spruce

Our Norway Spruce is resting in peace.  It was taken down on July 26. The number of its rings shows that it was about 120 years old and the spacing of the rings shows that it suffered, in the past 15 years, from an abundance of water and after that from drought.

So we now reflect on this experience of our environment, of too much and of too little.

Wisdom is a Tree of Life for all who embrace her (Proverbs 3,18).

Palm Sunday

All four Gospels in the Christian Scriptures include the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem:

"The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him."

How easily the moment and the heart of a crowd can change!

Treasure It? Or, Toss It?

Some of hardest things to part with are meaningful momentos. Whether trying to downsize or re-organize, there comes a point where accumulating more and more of these items gets impossible to manage!  By attending “Inheriting Clutter / Treasures” at Wisdom House on Saturday, April 22 (9:30 am-3:00 pm), you’ll learn ways to make your decisions to treasure them or toss them.

In this program, there will be discussion on how to determine what personal items are worth keeping and which to discard. For the items you want to keep, suggestions on ways to store them will be offered.

Presenting the workshop will be Susan Lovallo, a professional organizer, CPA, and founder of Clutter Solutions.

The cost for the program is $50 per person and includes lunch.

Author Carol Berry

Author Carol Berry, adjunct staff at Wisdom House for art and spirituality, is one of the featured writers in the recent issue of PARABOLA magazine. She has written an article titled: “The Urge to Create,” which focuses on how Vincent Van Gogh seemingly failed in his role to be a Protestant missionary among coal miners in Belgium in the 19th Century, but eventually emerged from this time of despair by paying attention to “that light within his soul, a vital spark – the urge to create.”

From June 3-5, 2017, Carol will give a retreat weekend at Wisdom House on the influence of Van Gogh on the famous 20th Century spiritual writer, Henri Nouwen.

Visit our website www.wisdomhouse.org for details about this program. Carol’s book, Vincent Van Gogh: His Spiritual Vision in Life and Art, is available in Wisdom House Book Store.

Later Life is Now

Some pictures from the February 11th program on "Later Life is Now" with Ann Belford Ulanov.

Dr. Ulanov spoke of Later Life as being that time when are called to let go of the things we can no longer control and a time to let go for what we still want to be for others. It also is the time to appreciate the mysticism of daily life.
