Commemorating MLK Jr.: 'Wake Up; Do Not Sleep Through Times of Change'
Rosemarie Greco, DW opened the Litchfield County 20th Martin Luther King, Jr., Commemoration at Trinity Episcopal Church, Torrington, CT on Sunday, January 16. She reminded those present of Dr. King's words to wake up: do not sleep through times of great change; develop a world perspective; eradicate poverty, racism and injustice in America; find alternatives to war, bloodshed and violence. ( See King's sermon: "Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution").
The event drew over 200 people from the tri-state area. At the celebration, founder and director of the commemoration, Victoria Christgau of Litchfield, received The Hartford Courant's Tapestry Award. The award celebrates individuals and organizations who emulate the cause of diversity.
The criteria for receiving the award is that the person or organization values the differences in people; excels in initiating or championing efforts to encrourage diversity; has developed and implemented specific programs that bring together residents from throughout the region;and has collaborated on projects that result in building a common ground for people from all walks of life.
Ms. Christgau is also the Founder/Executive Director of The Connecticut Center for Nonviolence. The office for the center is at the University of Hartford. It's website is http://www.ctnonviolence.org/.

Medieval and Renaissance Music at Wisdom House January 8
