Christmas 2012

As God sees the world tottering to ruin because of fear,

    God acts unceasingly to bring it back by love,

           To invite it by grace,

                      To hold it by charity,

Fourth Sunday of Advent

 

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?  For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord."

And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

Our Land is a Gift

Third Sunday of Advent

 

John the Baptist lived in the desert and led an ascetical life.

Crowds followed him wherever he went.

 

The Gospel of Luke reminds us:

"Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Messiah.

 John answered them all, saying,

 "I am baptizing you with water,

 but one mightier than I is coming.

 I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.

 He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

Thomas Moore on Care of the Soul and Spirit

Internationally-known author and Jungian psychotherapist, Thomas Moore, gave a weekend retreat at Wisdom House in November. Moore explored with participants the sources of soul and spirit that urge us to dig deep to find where we are at home with our soul and where our spirit urges us to reach out and create a future full of hope. He is the author of the New York Times best-seller, "Care of the Soul" and its companion book, "Soul Mates."
